Nutrition and dieting are widely discussed topics on social media. While some of the information shared online is accurate, much of it is misleading or even dangerous. With countless influencers promoting restrictive diets, quick fixes, and unsupported health claims, it can be difficult to know what advice to follow. To better understand healthy eating and weight management, there are no better experts to consult than Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs).
Registered Dietitian Nutritionists are healthcare professionals with specialized training in nutrition who provide dietary guidance tailored to each individual's health needs. Those who work in hospitals often care for acutely ill inpatients who require immediate and intensive nutrition support. Their goal is to improve patients' nutritional status and help prevent further health complications. These healthcare professionals care for patients with severe nutrition- and health-related conditions who require specialized dietary intervention.
The dietitian team at St. Jude Medical Center shared insights into their role in the hospital, the patients they work with, and the importance of evidence-based nutrition. During our interview, we discussed healthy dieting practices, how to identify harmful diets, and the impact of nutrition on overall well-being. They also explained what disordered eating is, the warning signs of eating disorders, and the key indicators that someone may be struggling with one.
